Gandhi
"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always."
Gandhi was a great man who fought agains evil and the things he saw in the world that he believed were unjust. Gandhi truly believed that good will always win in the end and he stood by his beliefs. One example of this is the fact that he urged people to not fight back when struck against. Not only did he have to face evil for a long period of time while not being able to do much against it, he also had to convince others to follow suit and believe that good would win in their hearts also. And, in the end, love won, and Gandhi succeeded.
Another example of Gandhi living his life by this quote is, in my opinion, the fact that he wasn't really fighting against any group in particular. Yes, I know, he was trying to do all these things with independence from Britain and government stuff and all that, but for the most part, he was just trying to make the world seem a little less evil. He was fighting to bring peace to bring down the tyrants and dictators and bring about a little more love. It all may seem invincible, all the evil, just in our everyday lives, but love will always win.
Gandhi didn't just live this quote; he preached it to everyone and tried to get everyone to love each other a little more to show the tyrants and dictators that they held no power over the love all humans can show for each other. This quote could also be applied to Gandhi's death; even though he is gone and it seems like it will be so much worse and last forever, we must know that there will be someone who will come forth and preach this same loving message and pass on Gandhi's legacy to all of us once again.

Ngo: Barefoot College
The Social Work and Research Center, more commonly known as the Barefoot College, was founded by Roy Bunker in 1972. It's mission is to empower lower class Indians to be able to sustain themselves in the world by teaching them real world skills. So far, it has taught over 3 million people how to succeed in the modern world. They have also opened night school for students who wish to learn even more and gain a greater education. The Barefoot College finds a struggling village and installs a water pump or solar panels and teaches the villagers how to use it to save energy. Each village operates using basic principles taught by Gandhi.
UNESCO partnered with the Barefoot College for their Global Partnership for Girl's and Women's Education. The program brought women from villages in rural Africa onto a campus and taught them how to install solar panels in order to install them in their own villages and save them a lot of money and energy. The Barefoot College is also thinking of expanding the program to Fiji. The Barefoot College has received many awards and continues to provide Indians with access to technology.

Pop culture
Indipop is a genre of music in India. Most of it comes from the Indian film industry. One of the first pop songs in India was Ko-Ko-Korina by Ahmed Rushdi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PABBW7bX1Uo). Recently, Indian pop music has taken to remixing old songs from movies and adding new beats to them. In the United States, pop music has taken a substantially different turn, focusing more on sounds similar to the European electronic dance music scene, but it has also influenced Indian music; many famous artists in America are also very famous in India.
